A look down the street

The House
The house is a typical French “Maison de village”. Originally the house was built of stone and oak beams but later the façade and inner walls were plastered. It is impossible to accurately date the house, however it is between three and four hundred years old. The walls are up to three quarters of a metre thick and there are no true right angles to be found in the house. The house displays its soul in all its charming, slightly crooked nooks and crannies. The original exposed beams in the ceilings are also part of the charm of the house. The stairs have small uneven steps and are sadly not particularly suitable for use by handicapped people.

During recent years, the house has been subjected to careful ongoing renovations. All electrical installations have been modernized and there are 2 new bathrooms each with its own water heater so there is plenty of hot water available. The kitchen has been upgraded with new modern appliances and there are electric radiators installed in all the rooms.

The top 3 floors give, in total, 150 metres of liveable area. There is also a ground floor where a former fish shop is now used a bicycle “cellar”, while the other two ground floor rooms , (a pair of old “caver”), with their arched roofs are used by the owners and are not included in the rented area.
The house is situated on a one way street, mid in the old part of Maureillas just 50 metres from the town square with its restaurant, pub, and council office.
